In which Cassie voices her bias towards random, pointless winners
Prof. Cassandra S. Lobiesk
The first few months of the New Year always seems to be host to various award ceremonies taking place: the Golden Globes, the Grammys, the Academy Awards, ad infinitum. And as usual, with award shows, there are always a host of nominees and fizzy speeches, and goody bags for the guests, and after-parties…but I digress.
The point of the matter is that because this is my corner, and I practically will do as I please regarding topics to discuss here, I decided against ranting about Valentine’s Day and instead taking a turn with an homage to the Oscars. I wanted to make my own awards show. And it shall be titled “The Lobiesk Awards of 2010.” Oh, yes, I kid you not.
What are the criteria for Lobiesk award nominations? Well, they’re anything and everything, darlings! They’re awarded for whatever tickles my fancy at the time I’m writing this, to perhaps an all-time favorite of last year’s conversations, misdemeanors, and debacles. Topics can range from the music I’ve adored, to the books I’ve devoured, to the sock patterns adorning my feet. So without further ado, here are the personal topics full of “win” for the span of 2009 to the beginning of 2010:
Random Lobiesk-nominated objects/subjects
Most drool-worthy male: Matsuda Shota
I had way too many I remembered having to choose from, but I figure I’ll take anime out, and leave The Doctor alone as well.
Fiercest female: Lady Gaga
You all knew this was coming.
Best sport to learn and ideally get confused over: Cricket
Don’t ask. Really. Don’t.
Best stuffed animal name: Euclid
One can never go wrong with naming a sushi plush after a mathematician.
Best couple in television: Merlin and…
I’ll give you a hint: it starts with “A” and rhymes with “barter.”
Best world to write fanfiction on: Tortallan universe by Tamora Pierce
I was between giving this bit to an anime or a book, but Pierce won out, since that’s what I’m currently working on.
Best fairy tale to completely mess up: Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Anyone who’s read my Ravenclaw Pride Month story knows exactly what I mean with this one.
Best book dedication: K.E. Mills’ The Accidental Sorcerer
The dedication was to Russell T. Davies and the 10th Doctor, ‘nuff said.
Best fangirling subject: “Doctor Who”
Even my sister rolls her eyes at me now when I mention the show.
Best addicting video game: Assassin’s Creed 2
What can I say? Nothing like Italian Renaissance goodness. Oh, and climbing tall areas like the Duomo helps a lot, too.
Random HOL-ish things (because this is a HOL paper):
Best HOL thing I love to hate: Zenix James’ FACE
You all saw this coming, too, I bet.
Most thwackable HOL prof: Prof. Ulol Kimil
You’d want to thwack him, too, if you knew the things I have to put up with!
Best HOL bludger: Xavier “Cheeseface” Dalen
After all these years, he finally gets hit.
Best HOL prefect to use as a cushion: Alexia Riaper
She’s also the best person to run to for help, as well!
Best HOL person to blame for everything going wrong: Zoki Phantom
O_O Zoki!
Best Random IRC P2Ps: Maya Winters
Stop p2ping randomly, you loser!
Best Quidditch Typo: Pavel Lagrange
We know what he said. Though it’s slightly unpublishable for G-rated reasons.
Most likely to get exchanged for a certain Gryffindor male: Kyrie Adderholt and Tara Aurelium
Alexia Riaper, too, but I’m already using her as a cushion.
Most lickable HOLer: Tarma Amelia Black
Somebody needs to send her a drool-bucket someday.
Best Snitch-Match: Princess Galaxy vs. Princess Alpha Leonis Virginis
A game the likes which no one has ever seen before!
A brief thank you to the following people for coming up with a few topics for awards: Kadina Tigano, Kyrie Adderholt, and Alexia Riaper!
