American Horror Story

January 2012 Zoki Phantom (Hufflepuff)

It’s been a while since any decent horror movie or series have been shown, and as all true horror fans can testify, pitiful tries like Paranormal Activities aren’t really worthy of the status “horror”, at least not by the general thoughts that come to your mind when you think of the term.

We are to thank the co-creators of “Glee” (yes, the musical!), Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, for bringing “American Horror Story” to the screens this fall, and showing everyone what true horror really is. If you have watched even one episode of Glee, you will probably think that whatever the creators have come up is nonsense and that it couldn’t possibly be a great horror story, but you would be very wrong. This is no gore horror like Saw or a filming project like Paranormal Activity, so it’s not the usual horror story, but if you’re looking for a good horror time this is the right show for you!

The show tells the story of lovers Vivien (Connie Britton) and Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) who try to save their marriage after an unpleasant event in their home in Boston. They decide to move with their daughter, Violet (Taissa Farmina), to Los Angeles to make a new start and try to work out things. However, since they give up their jobs and they have yet to prove their skills in LA, they decide to buy a cheaper house. But unfortunately for them, the mansion ends up to be haunted by the ghosts of the previous owners who have all lost their lives in the mansion itself.

You can’t just tell a bunch of grownups that their house is haunted and expect them to believe that and run away, so as per usual while the family figures things out it’s too late. Things get too complicated and they end up being forced to stay there, one way or another. They’ll even learn that their strange neighbor, Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange), with her children plays a really big role in everything that’s going on, and is one of the few who know are still alive and know the full history of the house.

What makes the show so great is that out of an ordinary, classic plot they’ve managed to create a masterpiece which will be make you sit tightly in your chair during the whole show, yet jump up at certain scenes. It’s a perfect drama story with just the right amount of horror and mystery, all nicely timed out to form what might be one of the best horror series in the past several years.

If you’re a fan of horror movies, or if you’re just looking for some good shows to watch and you aren’t fainthearted, then you should most definitely add the show to your list!
