Flying in the Spotlight

October 2013 Kyrie Adderholt

It goes without saying that Ravenclaw has a plethora of outstanding members. With the exception of a few Lobiesks, pretty much every Ravenclaw is wonderful. Due to this vast amount of awesomeness, I will be selecting two or three eagles to profile for every Alte issue this year. These will be new and old eagles alike, those who might not always be in the spotlight, but are certainly deserving.

For this issue, I selected two younger eagles to write about. When I was trying to decide who to focus on this time, I had a good look at the Roost and who had been active throughout the summer. Two names immediately popped out at me.

The first person I decided to include was second year eagle Shiloh Adlar. With nearly 3,000 points in her first year, making her the top points earning newbie in all of HOL last year, Shiloh is certainly an example of an outstanding eagle. She’s hard-working, ambitious, friendly, and a fun person to have a conversation with! Given her points-earning goals for this year, I think it is fair to say that she will be a formidable opponent for the spot to top points earner in Ravenclaw and that we will see many great things from her in the future!

Basic Information

Year on HOL: Second

Classes you're taking: Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, Internship at the Ministry of Magic, Poisons, Healing Herbology, Beginners Defense Against the Dark Arts

Real Life Summary: I read a lot, but I also attend pre-professional division classes at a dance academy near where I live. Dance, specifically ballet, is a large part of my life. I've been involved since I was 2. I like to read the classics and one of my favorite authors is Jane Austen. I also take a lot of adanced placements classes at my RL school and two post AP classes this year. That in itself keeps me busy. I have a job in retail that is a love/hate relationship. I also have a black cat named Onyx who is extremely spoiled and my best friend.

Favourite HP Book: Oh no! Why does this have to be a question? I love all of them! But if I have to choose, it would probably be Order of the Phoenix or Deathly Hallows.

Favourite HP Character: Luna Lovegood

Basic Questions

What is your favourite part of HOL so far? Ravenclaw? I love the variety of classes and everyone I've met. The activities are a blast and keep me involved, even over the summer! In Ravenclaw, what can I say? RQT!

Were you surprised you were sorted into Ravenclaw? Not at all. I'm an eagle through and through.

Is there a certain HOL’er that you look up to? I look up to a lot of people on HOL. Amy Charz introduced me to botting and she's been a great help, while Prof. Scarlet Leslie introduced me to seeking by saying that I should participate in the Seeker Tournament over the summer. It turned out to be a great time and something that I love doing. I know I can pretty much ask those two anything, and they'd be willing to help or offer encouragement.

What are your goals for this school year? TO BEAT KYRIE AND BECOME RotY! (Okay, so maybe that'll take some work, but I may have a plan with Scarlet's help) mwahahahaha! But of course, I want to earn as many points as I can so we can bring back the House Cup and ace botting once and for all. Especially that one set Charz keeps trying to get me to bot.

Fun Questions

What is your favourite colour? Pink!

Imagine you were trapped on a deserted island what three things would you want to have with you? I would want my wand, a good pair of shoes, and a broom to fly off the island.

If you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be? Can we make this fruit? Grapefruit!

If you could pursue any wizarding career, what would you pick? I would like to be a healer in the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad division in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes at the Ministry of Magic. But I think you already knew that.

Other Questions

So last year you were the top newbie points earner in all of HOL! Do you think you can top that number this year? If I'm going to be you, I guess I'll have to.

A little bird told me that you recently made RQT! How are you liking quidditch so far? I LOVE IT! I participated in SQL this summer and Charz told me I should go ahead and try out for RQT. I'm glad I did because we have a fun group this year, and we are going to blast GQT, HQT, and SQT out of the sky! Legally...probably.

What are you most looking forward to on HOL this year? Everything. I can't pinpoint one. Quidditch, the awesome classes I'm taking, continuing to meet new people, point hoarding, winning the House Cup... You know, the important stuff.

The second person I picked was none other than brand new eagle Amy Andrews. Despite that fact that I normally dislike most eagles named Amy (especially of the Charz or Lupin variety), her name stood out amongst all of the active eagles this summer. I think she might have thought I was a bit crazy when I first messaged her about this, but she was great throughout the entire process. I hope to see her participating in many more activities throughout the year and getting to know her even more!

Basic Information

Year on HOL: First

Classes you’re taking: Flying (Ryan Granger) - since in the Harry Potter universe, all first years takes this class so I thought I should do the same as well. Forensic Anthropology: When Bones Talk (Silmarien Szilagyi) - Mainly took this class because I like watching Bones. (the drama not the white one in our body). Languages 101 (Amy Lupin) - hoping to get some building blocks to learn a new language. Muggle Puzzles (Prof. Rorey Padfoot) - yes I'm one of those crazy people who loves puzzles. Vampires in Media (Prof. Daphne Marin-Booth) - Yes I'm also a typical vampire novels loving fan.

Real Life Summary: I'm a 22 year old girl currently doing my internship for college. I love swimming and badminton as well as reading novels. I'm the oldest with two other siblings.

Favourite Harry Potter Book: Order of the Phoenix, this is the part were Sirius and Harry get to spend more time and Sirius's character comes to show a lot. It is sad that Sirius got stuck in the veil thought. *refuses to believe that he is dead*

Favourite Harry Potter Character: Sirius Black, because I think his the best Godfather ever. How he is always caring towards Harry and his never-grow-up personality.

Basic Questions

What is your favourite part of HOL so far? Ravenclaw? I haven't gotten to exploring HOL yet but for now I'll say that the art department really interest me, lots of creative works there also the library also has a lot of interesting topic and ideas. As for Ravenclaw I think my favourite part would be the activities here, there are quite a number of things to do here and I already gotten a few muffins. *giggles*

Were you surprised you were sorted into Ravenclaw? I am not really surprise actually, I am sort of bookish and my favourite colour is blue so I was not really all that surprise to get into the house, it was more of my targeted house.

Is there a certain HOL’er that you look up to? Seeing as I have just start my first year here, I don't really know a lot of people thus I haven't found anyone I admire yet.

What are your goals for this school year? Only a few simple goals for my first year. First I am hoping to pass all the classes I sign up for and get enough quills to pass the year. I'm also hoping to join as many activities here as I have time for. Lastly I am hoping to make a few friends along the way.

Fun Questions

What is your favourite colour? Blue, it has a sort of calming effect on me. My entire room is painted in different shades of blue.

Imagine you were trapped on a deserted island what three things would you want to have with you? The first thing I would want my puppy so that I can have some company with me. Secondly I would want a good supply of food so I won't stave. Lastly I would chose to have my wand with me so I can escape. xD

If you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be? A broccoli? since my hair is really bushy and I find it hard to control if I don't cut it short.

If you could pursue any wizarding career, what would you pick? Being an Auror, its way cool and we get to learn many defensive and offensive spells as well as be able to protect the ones we love.

Other Questions

How do you like HOL and Ravenclaw so far? What has surprised you most about it? I'm really enjoying myself so far, what with classes and activities it really does drag you into thinking you are in the Harry Potter universe. As for what surprised me, I would say the attitude of the people here. All the house are alright and there are like no prejudices.

I noticed you’re participating in newbie camp. How’s that going? So far its alright, I enjoy my group's company and spending time doing the puzzles and daily trivias.

As a newbie what have you found to be the most intimidating part of HOL? The best part? The most intimidating part would be the age and year difference. For example, even though in real life we are of the same age or nearly the same, with us label as 1st years and say the other person a 7th year or professor, we tend to be a bit in awe of them and would almost dare not approach them first. The best part? Well everyone here share the love for the Harry Potter universe and there is no tension between houses like in the books.

I would like to thank Amy and Shiloh for both agreeing to answer all of my questions and let me bug them for a while! They are both wonderful Ravenclaws! If you would like to suggest an eagle in the spotlight for the next issue, please send me a Roost pm.
